TRAC joined with James Barnes Architects to transform the 4 level building through design-build project delivery for what is now the new DCI Design Center. Renovations included a new store-front and facade restoration approved by the Downtown Review Committee and the State's Historic District Commission. The program also called for interior renovations to accommodate an open floor plan for design, sales, marketing and product display as well as executive offices. The project sought federal historic tax credits.
The building, constructed in 1920, has an elaborate glazed terra-cotta facade and was occupied from the late 1940's through the 70's by Gladding’s Children’s Department Store and Cherry and Webb. Until recently it was the home of the Westminster Senior Center.
As part of its overall strategic plan to expand in the downtown area, Decor Craft Inc. purchased the historic building at 133 Mathewson St, adjacent to the Providence Hotel.
Decor Craft Inc. is a consumer product design and distribution company that spotlights designer products for retailers interested in the playful workings of contemporary pop culture.
